I have been teaching computer technology at Clarion Area Elementary School since 2014. In addition to teaching at the elementary school, I am an associate professor of special education at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Prior to teaching computer technology and teaching in higher education, I was a special education teacher in various school districts in Maryland and Pennsylvania. My current areas of certifications include: Special Education PreK-12, Reading Specialist PreK-12, Business/Computer/Information Technology PreK-12, English Language Arts 4-8, and Mathematics 4-8. I possess a BS in Business Administration from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, a M. Ed. with concentrations in elementary education, special education, and reading from Mount St. Mary's University, and an Ed. D. in special education with a minor in educational psychology from West Virginia University. Students come to computer technology once every normal five-day rotation. Skills focused on in computer technology is keyboarding, navigation of the internet, and some MS Word and Excel. Because children who code early in life gain a deeper understanding of problem solving using logic; and, like learning a language, practicing this type of thinking influences a developing brain (CodeRev, 2018), time is devoted to teaching and building coding skills. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and came back to teach in an elementary school because I simply missed teaching younger students. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns.
